The collection and analysis of the data is carried out by explica, and with its popularization is engaged one of the biggest communication agencies in Bulgaria – APRA PN BCG.
SDIndex is a generalized self-assessment of the behavior and reactions of road drivers in routine and risky situations. The assessment is representative of the Bulgarian drivers between the ages of 18 and 75 at the national level. SDIndex is based on the Driving Behavior Questionnaire (DBQ) developed in the 1990s by a team of psychologists at Manchester University, led by Professor James Reason, whose primary research interest is human performance in hazardous systems and transport human factors.
This is the first purposeful, nationally representative study in Bulgaria of the drivers’ perceptions of their own reactions, skills and behavior. The tool allows to investigate not only violations (intentional or unintentional), but also the gaps and mistakes drivers admit for lack of skills or skills deficiency. The results of similar studies in other countries based on the DBQ tool show that very often accidents are caused precisely by these risky behaviors.
